Transformers News: SHOCKWAVE to be in Dreamworks' Transformers The Movie?

Amidst all of the other Transformers news that occured today, I wanted to make sure that the first reference of SHOCKWAVE being in the movie wasn't overlooked. Ol' one eyes certainly deserves his time in the spotlight. This might actually make sense why we've seen a couple other Shockwaves (Shockblast, Laserwave - whatever name you want to use) appear as toys in the past year.

Here's the specific quote from

You can read the full article
ComingSoon.net.

Today's "most uncomfortable" quote of the day:

"The first question you have to ask yourself is what's the movie? We sat down with Steven Spielberg, and we said that the action scenes in this movie are a given, but he said that that it's the story of a boy and his car and that he wants to bring back the old Amblin movies. It's 'Back to the Future'…great! We're in! It's a real challenge, because the key to making those movies work--and I totally think it's why 'War of the Worlds' works so well--is to be so invested in the people and to maintain the subjectivity of the humans. If you start 'Transformers' with giant robots sitting in a spaceship flying through space, your movie is dead in the water. It's all about keeping it at a human level, and seeing the amazing things that are going on through the eyes of the characters."

Hopefully this will be clarified so we all don't freak out for the next 2 years. I'm sure the movie is in good hands.

As metioned yesterday Transfomers.com has been updated today with a big Announcement concerning the forthcoming Transformers Live Action Movie. The new comes in the form of a Comic Con Q&A and a Movie News Article giving details of the Deamworks film. Both news items announce the Movie will get its US release on July 4th 2007!

NOTE: The tentative release date for the Transformers movie does not coincide with the release date of Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 3 is set to be released on May 4th, 2007, according to the official Spider-Man 3 website.

TRANSFORMERS WILL BE MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE AT THEATRES NATIONWIDE ON 07-04-07

The live-action “Transformers” movie has been set to open nationwide on 07-04-07, it was jointly announced today by DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro, Inc.
    (NYSE: HAS), and Paramount Pictures.

The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming “The Island,” “Armageddon”) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (upcoming “The Island”). Steven Spielberg (“War of the Worlds”) is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming “Four Brothers”), Tom DeSanto (“X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”) and Don Murphy (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) serving as co-executive producers.

In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, “Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that ‘Transformers’ is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.”

“Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen,” said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro’s U.S. Toy segment. “With some of the entertainment industry’s best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful.”

DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film’s creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film.

This week, DreamWorks is launching the official “Transformers” movie website (www.transformers.com) at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 – 17 in San Diego, California. “Transformers” will also be making its presence known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area around the DreamWorks booth—and much of the convention floor—letting thousands of fans know that “Transformers” is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07.

Introduced in 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the Autobots versus the Decepticons. The innovative “Robots in Disguise” resulted in a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and an animated feature film. More than 20 years later, a new generation has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and its legendary characters, including the two leaders of the opposing sides: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on the Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from IDW Publishing.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October 1994 by its three principal partners—Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. The studio is actively involved in the production of live-action motion pictures and network and cable television programs, and the distribution of live-action and animated feature films, as well as home video entertainment.

Hasbro (NYSE:HAS) is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys, such as MONOPOLY and G.I. JOE, ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, TONKA, MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER, and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.

Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIAB), one of the world’s largest entertainment and media companies and a leader in the production, promotion, and distribution of entertainment news, sports and music.

In another case of "not reading what I wrote, but reading what you think I wrote" Don Murphy did his best to clarify some things on his report from last sunday. All he said was that the movie was falling behind schedule, not that it was in danger of being cancelled.

The producer had the following to say on his board.

"I just saw a headline on Comics2Film- "Is Transformers in Trouble?" and then linking to my Sunday post. God knows who else did it.

What is happening on Transformers is what happens on films ALL THE TIME. Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks, Hasbro and I are committed to making a GREAT TF film. We'd rather not make an okay one. And so it is taking longer than we hoped to get off the launch pad. We still will launch. It will be GREAT and then we will make sequel after sequel.

There is no doubt that this is true. I just like to share with you guys the blips and the crannies- but the film itself is not in the slightest peril".

"Hmm. So, let's get this straight...

Steven and Michael want the current writers. SI

However, their draft of the script is not "finalised".SI

They've moved on to MI3 with Steven's blessing. NOT WITH BLESSING, BUT THAT IS CORRECT

In the meanwhile, the script remains incomplete.SI

Soooo, is Bay gonna be shown the current version of the script, on the understanding that before final production starts, the writers will finalise it? NO

Will Bay now start working towards production, casting etc on the principle that by the time December, or whenever shooting begins, rolls around, the final script will be perfect? DUNNO"

Dreamworks, the company that's going to bring us a live-action Transformers movie in late 2006 / early 2007, is in the headlines today. Check out a couple of articles that I found of interest, one of which is directly related to who's in charge of the live action division of Dreamworks.

Dream machine gets a facelift - Studio reawakens to a Geffen-ing roar

The 11 year old Dreamworks is apparently have an identity crisis. Is music mogul David Geffen now in charge of the live action division of Dreamworks instead of Steven Spielberg? Has Dreamworks gone from being a "different kind of movie company" to just another popcorn machine? Read more about this article at Variety.com.

Earlier today, Dreamworks warned of a loss in the 2nd quarter of 2005 and also cut its full-year forecast, citing disappointing sales of home videos. Read more about this article at WashingtonPost.com.

Don Murphy has once again left a short update on his board for his loyal "Stooges". The producer of the upcoming movie, can be quoted as posting the following on his dm Board of his official site.

    "What’s Happening?

The writers have been lured off to work on Mission Impossible 3…which will delay us indeed….no script in sight….

The studio will have a great big truck on the floor of the San Diego Convention. Tom and I have NOTHING to do with this. If it turns out to be awesome, credit Dreamworks marketing. If not, well….

I will be walking around with Susan and Rick (my VP) Friday and Saturday morning. Say hi if you see us"

    Official Press Release:

DreamWorks will be treating thousands of fans to a preview of what is coming up from the studio at this year's Comic-Con International, being held from July 13-17 in San Diego, CA. Those who come by the DreamWorks booth (#3729) will have an opportunity to be among the first to attend exclusive advance screenings of two of DreamWorks' big live-action summer releases. They will also see, firsthand, some exciting behind-the-scenes props and sets, including one big surprise, yet to be announced.

Here is some of what awaits fans visiting the DreamWorks booth at Comic-Con International:

    * Free passes to a special advance screening of Michael Bay's new futuristic action thriller The Island.

    * Free tickets to the first public screening of Wes Craven's new suspense thriller Red Eye.

    * Exclusive footage from some of the new animated features coming from DreamWorks Animation, including Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Over the Hedge, and Flushed Away.

    * Fun giveaways from several of our upcoming films, including the Japanese cult hit Casshern.

Fans will also get a glimpse behind-the-scenes at a variety of props and actual sets from DreamWorks' upcoming slate, including:

    * The real movie sets used to create DreamWorks' and Aardman's clay-animated feature Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, together with concept art by Wallace & Gromit creator and director Nick Park.

    * Character maquettes and conceptual artwork from the computer-animated comedy Over the Hedge.

    * A full-sized flying motorcycle, called the Wasp, which is featured in an explosive action sequence in Michael Bay's new action thriller The Island.

In addition, it has recently been announced that DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in association with Hasbro, Inc., will produce a new live-action motion picture based on the globally popular Transformers. Fans at Comic-Con will actually participate in the launch of the movie's website, and will be treated to a few surprises to kick off the film's promotional campaign. Transformers is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Constantine), Don Murphy (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and Tom DeSanto (X-Men and X2: X-Men United), with Steven Spielberg (War of the Worlds) executive producing.

Opening nationwide on July 22, The Island stars Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson as Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta, two residents of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln and Jordan hope to be chosen to go to the "The Island" - reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet - until they learn that everything about their existence is a lie and that they are actually more valuable dead than alive. Michael Bay directed The Island from a screenplay by Caspian Tredwell-Owen and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, from a story by Tredwell-Owen.

A suspense thriller at 30,000 feet, Red Eye opens nationwide on August 19. Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) hates to fly, but the terror that awaits her on the night flight to Miami has nothing to do with a fear of flying. Moments after takeoff, her seatmate, Jackson (Cillian Murphy), menacingly reveals the real reason he's on board: He is an operative in a plot to assassinate the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and Lisa is the key to its success. Red Eye was directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Carl Ellsworth, from a story by Ellsworth and Dan Foos.

Opening nationwide on October 7, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is the first feature-length film featuring the beloved characters from Aardman's Academy Award®-winning shorts in a brand new comedy adventure. Nick Park, the creator of Wallace & Gromit, directed the film with Steve Box.

An action-packed sci-fi thriller, Kazuaki Kiriya's Casshern blends Japanimation and manga-inspired live action resulting a new kind of hybrid filmmaking that is both visually stunning and thought-provoking. The story takes place late in the 21st century, following a half century of war that has left the planet ravaged and the entire human race dispirited and exhausted. A geneticist brings hope in the form of a "neo-cell," which can rejuvenate human parts with no risk of rejection, but nature interferes with science to create a new menace that forces the entire human race to fight an ultimate war against its own extinction. DreamWorks will release the Japanese hit under the banner of its specialty film division, Go Fish Pictures.

Bruce Willis and Garry Shandling head up the all-star voice cast of the computer-animated comedy Over the Hedge, based on the popular comic strip by Michael Fry and T Lewis. When a group of woodland creatures find a suburban housing development encroaching on their forest home, they become unlikely allies as they learn to co-exist with - and even exploit - this strange new world called suburbia. Over the Hedge is slated for release by DreamWorks Animation in Summer 2006.

Flushed Away is a computer-animated comedy adventure set on and beneath the streets of London, starring the voices of Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet. Roddy (Jackman) is an upper-crust "society rat," who is rather rudely evicted from his Kensington flat when he is flushed down into Ratropolis, the bustling sewer world under London's streets. There, he meets Rita (Winslet), an enterprising scavenger. Though completely out of his element at first, the privileged Roddy finds himself an unlikely hero when he learns that Ratropolis is in danger from the world above. From DreamWorks Animation and Aardman, Flushed Away is scheduled for release in Fall 2006.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DreamWorks Animation SKG (NYSE-DWA) is devoted to producing high-quality family entertainment through the use of computer-generated (CG) animation. Utilizing world-class creative talent and state-of-the-art technological capabilities, the company is committed to making two computer-animated feature films a year that appeal to a broad movie-going audience.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October, 1994, by its three principal partners - Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen - to produce live-action motion pictures; animated feature films; network and cable television programming; home video entertainment; records; books; toys; and consumer products.
